POSITION TITLE:

Resident Counselor III - Youth Coordinator

Employment Initiative, Resident Services, Kensington, MD

 

DESCRIPTION & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position manages and coordinates the day-to-day functions of the HUD funded ROSS grant titled Youth Aiming for Careers.  Targets low-income adolescent youth planning to enter or about to enter the job market.  Develops promotional materials to recruit Public Housing Youth, interviews applicants and assesses skills, strengths and barriers to success.  Provides ongoing case management to participants, organizes and implements pre-employment activities, workshops, seminars, identifies and utilizes the services of contractors and vendors with specialization in the employment arena to provide on-site services; links youth participants to vocational and academic opportunities at area training programs and community colleges.  Assists youth in job search, development of resumes and interviewing skills. Conducts career fairs and other events to introduce potential job areas to participants.  Facilitates job hiring among potential employers.  Develops volunteer work experiences for participants to increase skill level and professional development of youth.  Maintains accurate files on each participant, inputs data to compile and track accurate and timely statistical information.  Works closely with Employment Initiative Program team members and other HOC staff.

 

Requires a BA degree in Social Work or related field and a minimum of three years experience in job development services, youth services, and/or case management.  Must be organized, dependable and detail oriented. Good oral and written communication skills.  Must have a car and a valid driver’s license.  Travel within Montgomery County is required.  Willingness to work some evenings and weekends.  Good computer skills

This is a Three-Year Term Position.  Job Continuation is based on funding.

HOC conducts criminal background checks, employment reference checks, and where applicable, reviews driving records in determining suitability for employment.  Selected applicants will be required to submit to pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.  Employment is contingent upon drug and alcohol test results.
