HOC CHANGES WEBSITE ADDRESS TO: www.hocmc.org FROM: www.hocweb.org Agency’s New URL Launched First Week of 2004
HOC’s existing website, which offers information on affordable housing in Montgomery County, changed its website address to www.hocmc.org on January 5. The change was made to conform the website to email addresses at the agency, which all carry the “hocmc.org” extension. Visitors who continue to visit the site under its previous URL will be re-directed to the new website.
The site, which launched in 1999, is comprised of more than 650 pages of information about the Housing Commission and its programs, which include public housing, the Housing Choice Voucher Program, HOC’s reduced-rate mortgage program for first-time homebuyers (along with up-to-date information on availability of funds for the mortgages). Website visitors can also find listings and contact information for apartments in Montgomery County that target their rents toward lower-income households.
In 2002, HOC became one of the first housing agencies to enable online applications for its housing programs. (Applications are taken ONLY when the waiting lists are open.) When the agency last opened its waiting list in August 2003 for the Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly Section 8), more than 4,000 applications were received online (close to half of the total applications filed).
Participants in HOC programs, such as the Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS), the Housing Choice Voucher Program and others may visit the website to learn about the programs. Landlords, volunteers, suppliers and others interested in affordable housing in Montgomery County can find information on opportunities available through HOC. Information about HOC’s nonprofit partner, Community Partners, can also be found on the HOC website.
The site carries up-to-date information about the opening and closing of HOC’s waiting lists. In a typical month, the site receives more than 5,000 visitors.
