HOC TO HOLD ANNUAL MEETING WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 4, 2004, 7 P.M.

Four New Inductees to be Named to HOC’s Housing Honor Roll; Special Recognition Awards Acknowledge Community Volunteers

The Housing Opportunities Commission

 

The agency’s Annual Meeting is the occasion for the election of new officers. The Commission will also distribute awards for its Housing Honor Roll and will honor several community members for their partnership with HOC during the year.

 

Housing Honor Roll awardees for 2004 are all past or present members of HOC’s Section 236 housing boards. They are:

 

§          Judge Paul McGuckian (Leafy House, Inc.)

§          Walter Petzold (Banor Housing, Inc.)

§          Avi Halpert (Camp Hill Square, Inc.)

§          Mary M. Corley (Town Center Apartments, Inc.)

 

Special Recognition Awards will be given to:

 

§          Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Bethesda, Md. For the past seven years, Ruth’s Chris has donated, prepared and served a gourmet Thanksgiving dinner for the elderly public housing residents of HOC’s Waverly House in Bethesda.    

§          Rockville’s Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, which, for the past 17 years, has operated a holiday food basket donation program that has provided food for more than 600 lower-income families in our community each year.

§          Federal Realty Investment Trust, for their sponsorship of HOC’s “Back to School Supply Drive.”  In 2003, this event helped provide 950 HOC youth with the supplies they needed to return to school prepared. FRIT has sponsored this event for the past two years.

§          The Original Pancake House in Bethesda, Md., for their sponsorship of a Christmas Breakfast for elderly public housing residents of HOC’s Waverly House and residents of area shelters. The restaurant has hosted this event for the past eight years.
