The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) has awarded HOC
an "Award of Excellence" in the Community Revitalization category for developing Stewartown Homes; Shady Grove; The Willows
and Georgian Court Apartments. HOC will be presented the award at the upcoming annual MARC-NAHRO Conference in Ocean City, Maryland,
May 22 - 24, 2002. HOC’s application for the award details how HOC developed these
communities, focusing on how the financing for these communities was achieved through community partnerships and HOC's role as an
affordable housing developer. |

The Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County (HOC) is considering revising its
admissions policy for its Housing Choice Voucher program (formerly Section 8).
HOC is considering adding a preference for admission for households whose rent and utility expenses equal or exceed 50
percent of gross income. The matter will be discussed at the regular Commission meeting of June 5, 2002 at 7 pm, at the agency's main office
at 10400 Detrick Avenue, Kensington, MD 20895.
