New Members Approved for Montgomery County Workforce Investment BoardMontgomery County Government March 24, 2008 Representatives from the banking, not-for-profit, IT and healthcare sectors are among those newly appointed or reappointed to the Montgomery County Workforce Investment Board (WIB). The Montgomery County Council confirmed the ten individuals recommended for appointment to the Board earlier this month by County Executive Isiah Leggett. The goal of the WIB is to create and maintain a well-prepared, educated, and adaptable workforce to meet the current and future needs of employers in Montgomery County. “I am pleased with the Council’s confirmation of my appointments for the County’s Workforce Investment Board,” said Leggett. “I have no doubt this high-caliber, experienced group of public and private sector professionals will work tirelessly during their terms to ensure the current and future vitality of the County’s outstanding workforce.” Board members may serve up to two consecutive terms, with one full-term comprising two years. Following are the new and returning Montgomery County Workforce Investment Board members. New members: • Mr. Anthony Cancelosi, President & CEO, Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind• Ms. Lori Golino, Sr. Vice President – Human Resources, Social & Scientific Systems, Inc. • Ms. Susan Leggett-Johnson, Associate Medical Director of Human Resources, Kaiser Permanente • Mr. Stephen Kornblatt, Principal – Workforce Development, JBS International, Inc. • Ms. Sharan London, Executive Director, MC Coalition for the Homeless • Mr. Eugene Spencer, Assistant Director, Montgomery County Housing Opportunities Commission • Ms. Dawn Weglein, Human Resource Director & Sr. Vice President, Sandy Spring Bank Reappointments: • Ms. Susan Heltemes, Consultant, American Library Association• Ms. Carmen Larsen, President, AQUAS, Inc. • Mr. Pradeep Ganguly, Director, Department of Economic Development The Montgomery County Workforce Investment Board seeks to increase awareness of workforce development issues and to strengthen the County's workforce development system by developing partnerships with business, government and community-based organizations. “The board is critical to shaping the County’s workforce vision and working to create and retain a workforce that meets the needs of the county’s economy,” said Barbara Kaufmann, Manager, Montgomery County Department of Economic Development’s Division of Workforce Services. “It also helps provide oversight to the workforce development system.” The recent appointments bring the Board’s membership up to 25, with thirty total members allowed. The County is now recruiting for three business representatives, one community-based representative and one labor representative. Letters of intent should be sent to the County Executive. |
