Public Housing Wait List
The Public Housing waiting list is currently closed.
(Last Open December 8-20, 2008)
When the waiting list opens, advertisements are placed in local newspapers, on radio, on TV in the form of public service announcements, and on this website.
Applications are available ONLY while the waiting list is open at Montgomery County Service Centers, County senior centers, and/or on this HOC website.
Public Housing Application Process
The Public Housing waiting list is now closed. You may ONLY apply for the Public Housing program while the wait list is OPEN. This is called the Pre-application phase and applications will only be accepted on-line or by mail. Pre-applications submitted on-line, hand-delivered, or mailed to any address other than the P.O. Box shown on the pre-application will not be accepted.
In the initial application or the pre-application, the family provides limited basic information establishing any preferences to which they may be entitled. This results in the family’s placement on the waiting lists.
What Happens After You Apply
After the waiting list has closed, HOC will notify all applicants by mail that their pre-application has been received. The new waiting list process does not organize the pre-applications in number order. All pre-applications will be maintained in a pool until randomly selected by lottery when a public housing unit becomes available. HOC will notify applicants who have been selected from the pool of pre-applications by mail and ask them to submit information to verify their eligibility.
You must notify HOC in writing if your address changes. HOC must be able to contact you if you have been selected.
For questions concerning the waiting list, please call: (240) 627-9785.
