Congregate Housing, Frequently Asked Questions

Where are these apartments?

Leafy House, located at 10000 Brunswick Avenue, is in a quiet, historic Silver Spring neighborhood. In addition to the common areas and Entry Guard security system, Leafy House has its own beauty salon, convenience store and library.

Can I afford the Congregate Housing Services Program?

Rents range from $370 to $518, depending upon income. All rents include utilities.

In addition, there is a monthly fee for the Congregate Housing Services Program. Subsidy monies for this program fee may be available through the Maryland Office on Aging.

Do I qualify?

Residents must be 62 years of age or older and show a need for assistance with meal preparation and other household tasks. Income cannot exceed $30,450 for a single person and $34,800 for a couple. There is a minimum income requirement.

The Congregate Housing Services Program has no Montgomery County residency requirement.

What other services are available?

To ensure safety, staff checks on each residents twice a day. In addition, residents may choose to take advantage of the following services:

  • Weekly shopping trips
  • Religious services
  • Escort to building activities
  • Exercise classes
  • Friendly visits (help with mending, writing letters and reading mail)
  • Day trips
  • Volunteer opportunities
  • Bookmobile visits to the building
  • Podiatrist visits to the building
  • Daily mail pickup and delivery
