| Who can apply for Public Housing? |
You must be 18 years or older to submit a pre-application. There is no minimum
income limit. HOC targets those whose income limits are at or below 50% of annual median
income.
|
| Can I apply for HOCs Public Housing waiting list if I am not a Montgomery County resident? |
Preference is given to people who live, work, or have notification of work in Montgomery County.
However, anyone can apply.
|
| Am I guaranteed Public Housing if I fill out this form? |
No. HOC will notify you whether or not you have been added to the waiting list.
When Public Housing becomes available, HOC will contact applicants for more detailed information.
|
| How will I know whether or not I have been selected? |
You will receive written notification from HOC if you have been randomly selected. All
pre-applications not selected prior to the next opening of the waiting list will be discarded.
|
| If I am selected for the waiting list, how long is the wait? |
It is impossible to predict how long you will wait because HOC does not know when units
will become available. Generally, only 150 units become available each year.
|
| If the waiting list closes, will I be able to call HOC and determine where I am on the list? |
No. After the waiting list is closed, HOC will notify all applicants by mail that their
application has been received. The new waiting list process does not organize the pre-applications in number order. All pre-applications
will be maintained in a pool randomly selected by lottery.
|
| If I receive Public Housing, how much will I pay in rent? |
Typically, Public Housing residents pay 30% of their gross income for rent and utilities.
|
| What are some of the conditions of receiving Public Housing? |
As part of its selection process, HOC conducts criminal background checks, landlord reference
checks, and credit checks.
|
| I am currently on HOCs Public Housing waiting list, do I need to fill out this form? |
Yes. If you are already on the waiting list, you need to reapply.
