Homeless man found in apartmentAgnes Jasinski Gazette Newspapers February 6, 2008 Police responded to a call of a homeless man in a resident’s unit of an apartment building in Silver Spring on Sunday night. The call came from a resident of the Elizabeth House, 1400 Fenwick Lane, about 6:30 p.m., Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Lucille Baur said. At the same time, a higher priority call of a hit-and-run collision came in, she said, and the officers were diverted. When they returned later that night, police found that the resident who called was in the middle of moving into the vacant apartment when she found a man inside. The Elizabeth House, owned by the Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County, is a 160-unit building for low-income elderly and disabled tenants. Diane Thomas, the property manager of the Elizabeth House, would not comment about the incident. ‘‘It is our understanding that the owner of the residence was not from this country, and was described to be culturally uncertain of what she should do,” Baur said. The resident and the man were both in the apartment unit when police arrived, she said. There was no sign of forced entry, nothing stolen and no harm to the resident, Baur said. The man left the building when asked by the officers to do so. |
