What do I need to apply for a housing waitlist?

  • The online application should take about 30 minutes to complete.
  • Please be prepared to provide:
    • A current mailing address and phone number;
    • Names, social security numbers and birthdates of all household members (you may provide other demographic information, such as ethnicity and gender, if you wish);
    • Whether any household member is elderly (62+) or has disability;
    • The current living situation of the head of household (ex. “homeless” or “not homeless”);
    • The total monthly income (before tax) of all household members;
    • The sources of all income (ex. wages, pensions, TANF/TCA and other sources);
    • The area/neighborhood where you wish to live so HOC can provide information and resources about housing programs and properties that may be of interest to you.

Is there a paper application?

No, the waitlist is fully electronic and it is available online. It will remain open all year round.

How do I apply for the waitlist?

  1. Log onto: www.HOCHousingPath.com
  2. Click on the “Sign Up” button on the bottom right side of the page.
  3. Create a new account:
    1. You must use a valid email address
    2. Create a password that you can remember
    3. Select the security questions and provide answers to those questions.
  4. Read our Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions then check the box.
  5. Click the “Register Now” button.
  6. You will get a “Registration Successful” message on the screen. A confirmation of your registration will be sent to your email address.
  7. Once logged into email. Click on “Verify Profile”.
  8. Log into the wait list application.
  9. Create profile. Enter your personal information including:
    1. Full name
    2. Street address
    3. Date of birth
    4. Phone number
    5. Social security number or ITIN (if applicable)
  10. Click “Continue”.
  11. Select the specific programs or properties where you wish to live
  12. Enter your household information including:
    1. Ethnicity, Race, and Gender
    2. Total number of members in the household
    3. Total monthly income (before tax) from all household members, income frequency, and income sources
  13. Answer the required questions on the page.
  14. Click “Continue”.
  15. Check boxes for your location preferences and desired number of bedrooms.
  16. Click “Continue.”
  17. Enter alternative contact information if you want to designate someone to receive notifications on your behalf. If you would like to be notified by U.S. mail, please check the box after the alternate contact information.
  18. Review your profile and application and confirm all the data entered is correct.
  19. Click “Submit Application”.

Who can apply to the waitlist?

HOC’s waitlist is open to everyone.

What are the requirements to apply?

All applicants must be at least 18 years of age. There are no income restrictions for applicants.

 

Do applicants need to live in Montgomery County to apply?

No. Applicants do not have to live in Montgomery County to apply; however, those who live, work or have notice of work in Montgomery County will have preference.

How are applicants selected?

Applicants are matched to an appropriate housing program based on the information in the application, such as household size, income, preferences and program availability.

How will applicants know if they are selected to participate in a program?

If an applicant meets any qualifications for assistance, they will receive an email notification when they are selected. It is important that you maintain accurate contact information and update your application as necessary.

How long will it be open? Is there a deadline to apply?

HOC will keep the wait list open indefinitely. There is no closing date.

How much does it cost to apply?

There is no cost to apply for HOC’s housing wait list.

How long is the wait to get housing once someone applies?

The wait will vary based on unit availability, household income, applicant preferences and other factors. There is no time limit or average wait time for selection.
