HOC is seeking Commission approval to transition its current affordable housing Wait List system, Housing Path, to a new, more efficient technology platform. To successfully complete the transition, HOC is proposing to temporarily pause the acceptance of new applications for housing assistance beginning early 2027. This pause is essential to ensuring a seamless transition and enabling applicants to more easily apply for affordable housing opportunities and perform account maintenance.
During this proposed temporary transition process, current applicants and the general public would not have access to the Housing Path system; however, current applicants will not lose their place/position on HOC’s Wait Lists. In addition, HOC would continue selecting applicants from the Wait Lists for applicable programs.
HOC has begun a public comment period for the public to submit input, feedback and comments regarding the proposed Wait List transition. The public comment period runs from Oct. 1, 2026, through Nov. 5, 2026. Written comments can be submitted to HOC via email (plancomments@hocmc.org) or mail (1328 Fenwick Lane, Silver Spring, MD 20910) to the attention of Darcel Cox, Vice President of Compliance.
The public will also have the opportunity to submit oral comments in person during a Public Hearing at HOC’s headquarters offices (1328 Fenwick Lane, Silver Spring, MD 20910) or virtually via Zoom, which will be held on Nov. 5, 2026 at 4:30 p.m. The public hearing may be viewed live via YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/live/y-pE-zRNd4M.
Questions regarding participation in the public hearing or to request a disability related accommodation can be directed to Imani Benjamin-Johnson at (240) 627-9549, Maryland Relay Number 711 (TTY), or imani.benjamin-johnson@hocmc.org.
Here is additional information on how the Wait List transition process will affect current applicants and the general public.
