Building the Future of Silver Spring
The redevelopment of Elizabeth Square represents the vibrant resurgence of a key section of downtown Silver Spring. Four mixed-income, mixed-use multifamily residential buildings will provide more than 900 homes. The Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center (SSRAC) offers recreation and meeting spaces, while the Holy Cross Health Center — integrated into The Leggett senior residence — provides essential health services to the entire surrounding community.
Adjacent to Elizabeth Square, the new nine-story headquarters offices building of the Housing Opportunities Commission (HOC) opened in February 2026. Demolition of the former Elizabeth House high-rise was completed in June 2026. Planning work is underway to optimize the site as redevelopment plans progress.
