Are you eager to make a difference in your community? Then join us for our very first Volunteer Recruitment Event at the Cider Mill Resident Services Suite on Thursday, May 7, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and step into the role of a Cider Mill Changemaker! We invite middle and high school students and adults 18 or older to join the fun. School-age youth can earn ASL hours. Cider Mill Changemakers can sign up to become a Community Coach, where practical training will help you connect with neighbors and encourage positive change. After training, you will share important HOC resources with your community and collect useful feedback through interactive surveys. Plus, you will receive stipends and tasty meals twice a week as an appreciation for your time. (For Cider Mill residents only)

An ongoing yearly bingo event series for Forest Oak Towers residents that occurs twice a month on Thursdays. This event promotes socialization for older adults while also having fun, refreshments, and prizes.
Join the Housing Opportunities Commission and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services for a free Fire Safety and Prevention Learning Session. Learn to identify and reduce common fire hazards, create a family fire escape plan, use smoke alarms correctly, and keep children safe from burns and fire risks. A Q&A session will follow. All participants will be entered into a prize raffle. Light food and refreshments will be available.
Tanglewood children who have been learning piano will be performing in a piano recital. This will be a wonderful opportunity for them to share their progress and hard work with their friends and families. We would love for you to join us and support the young performers as they showcase their musical talents.
Please join us for a fun-filled afternoon with Escape Velocity Academy. In this family/adult activity led by Escape Velocity Academy, participants will design, build and fly their very own glider. We will also have a friendly fly competition with prizes! Refreshments will be served. All children must be accompanied by an adult. **PLEASE** So that we have a glider kit and supplies for each participant, pre-registration for this event is required. This event is limited to Strathmore Court residents.
Do you need know how to find and navigate available resources? Resident Services will host monthly resource sharing sessions monthly. This is an opportunity for participants to learn about available resources in Montgomery County and at HOC to include food resources, wellness, financial assistance resources for emergencies, employment, tuition assistance, etc. The sessions are offered on the third Tuesday of each month in the evening. Staff will provide information on how to navigate services. This will also provide a space for participants to inquire about their resource needs. In addition, this will be an opportunity for participants to learn about the services offered by the Resident Services Division. You must register online to participate. Registered participants will receive virtual instructions.
Everyone needs safe, decent and stable housing. This interactive workshop focuses on the agency’s mission in keeping residents housed in the various housing programs that the Housing Opportunities Commission offers. The workshop attempts to
empower participants with information that will assist them in being successful with housing, combining effective strategies and information on available resources that can
help a resident to successfully maintain his/her housing. Participants will develop a better understanding of his/her housing program, guidelines and the rights & responsibilities
outlined in a lease. You must register online to participate. Registered participants will receive virtual instructions.
